The most frequently asked question by parents interviewing for enrollment is “What is a typical day’s schedule?” This is a difficult question for me to answer. While we do have a daily schedule that we follow, we also allow flexibility to adjust activities to the mood of the children. If they are happily at play in the sandbox, we do not interrupt them because it’s “11:15- circle time”. If circle time is at 11:30 instead of 11:15, it’s still part of their day. The extra 15 minutes spent in sandbox in happy exploration of materials and learning cooperation with peers was time well spent.
I feel these young preschool years are best served by a variety of materials and activities. The children have an entire lifetime of schedules and deadlines once they start kindergarten. For now, and within limits, the children help set our time clock.
